Sir Edmund Hillary's life.
  • Edmund was born on 20th of July 1919 in Auckland in New Zealand. During school, Edmund liked to read book and dream about doing tons of adventures. When Sir Edmund was 16, he went on a trip to MT Ruapehu and than there was a light blot in his head, he got interested in climbing things. When Edmund got interested in climbing, he started joining climbing groups and clubs. 
  • In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary was invited too climb the tallest mountain in the whole entire world, Mount Everest with the British. 
  • There is only 1 group allowed to go try climb Mount Everest a year so it was a major huge deal. 
  • There were more than 400 people trying to climb Mount Everest for the British. 
  • If they had a expedition like with 400 people, they had to go in stages so they could all have turns climbing each stages. 
  • As some of the climbers got higher and higher, and some of the others stayed behind. There were only 2 partners left on the journey, Sir Edmund and Tenzing Norgay and another team. Weeks later the other team stayed behind and then weeks later Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay finally survived and concurred Mount Everest.
  • Tenzing and Edmund were the first people to step foot on top of the highest mountain in the world.
  • Sir Edmund Hillary got money for climbing to the top of Mount Everest and he spent it on his family and used his money to buy schools and hospitals for New Zealand. 
  • Sir Edmund was knighted by Queen Elizabeth the second in 1953.
  • Sir Edmund Hillary had a wife and 3 kids. Sadly the youngest child and Sir Edmund Hillary's wife died in a plane crash.
  • Sir Edmund Hillary died at the age of 88 and the date of January the 11th 2008.

  3. Sir Edmund Hillary's youngest child and wife died in a plane crash.

  5. Sir Edmund Hillary died from heart failure at the age of 88.
